This example demonstrates how to install AWS-managed EKS Capabilities — including ACK (AWS Controllers for Kubernetes), ArgoCD, and KRO (Kubernetes Resource Orchestrator) — on an EKS cluster.
The ArgoCD capability requires AWS Identity Center (IAM Identity Center / SSO) to be enabled in your account. The example uses us-east-1 as the region since that is where Identity Center is typically configured.

Prerequisites

  • An existing VPC with private subnets.
  • AWS Identity Center enabled (required for the ArgoCD capability).
  • Terraform >= 1.5.7 and the AWS provider >= 6.28.

Configuration

The example creates three capabilities on the same EKS cluster: ACK, ArgoCD, and KRO.

Deploy

1

Initialize Terraform

2

Review the plan

Inspect the planned resources. You should see the EKS cluster, VPC, and three capability modules.
3

Apply

Cluster creation takes approximately 10–15 minutes. The capabilities are installed after the cluster is active.

Key outputs

Clean up

Destroying the capabilities and cluster is irreversible. Ensure you have backed up any workloads and state stored in the cluster before running terraform destroy.
